Customizing your page

Avatar, background, colours, fonts and metadata, with the size and format each one takes.

Avatar and background

Everything visitors see is edited under Customize. Changes go live the moment you save, so there is no publish step and no preview to keep in sync.

Background10 MB → fitted to 1920×1080
Accepted formatsPNG, JPG, WEBP and GIF

Every upload is re-encoded to WebP under a name we pick, which is what strips the metadata a phone puts in a photo. The box only ever shrinks an image: a smaller upload is left at its own size.

Uploads are screened for nudity on the way in, before anything is stored. A refused upload costs you nothing and leaves nothing behind.

Background video

A background can be a video instead of a still. It plays muted, on a loop, under the same veil and blur a still background gets.

Accepted formatsMP4 and MOV
File size20 MB
ResultWebM · 15s · 1280×720 · 30fps

A longer clip is trimmed rather than refused. Encoding runs as a job in the background: you can leave the page and the new background appears when it finishes.

Animated uploads

An animated GIF or WEBP stays animated. It is trimmed and re-encoded the same way a clip is, wherever an image is accepted.

Resultanimated WEBP · 15s · 30fps

Like video, an animation is encoded as a background job rather than while you wait.

Colours, fonts and text

Colours are yours: the accent, the card, the text and the background all take a value you pick, and everything else on the page is derived from them. Your README card follows the same palette, so restyling your page restyles the card.

Custom cursorPremium

The cursor has a page of its own: see Custom cursor.

Effects sit on top of all this, and there are enough of them to have their own page too. See Background and username effects.

How your page looks when shared

When your link is pasted into Discord, Slack or anywhere else that unfurls a url, the preview is drawn from your page. The title, the description and the accent colour of that card are settings.

Indexing is a switch of its own under Settings. Turning it off puts a noindex tag on your page and takes it out of our sitemap, so it is never advertised to a crawler in the first place.
