Links appear as icons under your name, in the order you arrange them. Each recognised service knows its own url shape, so you paste a handle and the full address is built for you.

A link is stored as the handle you typed, not as the url it becomes, so a service changing its address does not leave you with a dead link.

An email address and a wallet address are their own kind of destination, so they open a mail client or a wallet rather than a web page.
Anything else
Anything we do not have a glyph for goes in as Custom URL: paste the whole address and it is drawn with a generic globe.
Only http and https links are accepted.
A url that tries to run something rather than open a page is refused. That is not a filter you can talk your way past by encoding it differently, and it applies to a Custom URL exactly as it does to a handle.
